We, Takasho Digitec, jointly developed exterior item “Drip louver” to IoT with Misawa Homes Research Institute
Achieving the best “watering effect” in summer heat
IoT for exterior item “Drip Louver”
○ Achieve high cooling and water saving effects by linking with weather information
○ Utilize the know-how of “microclimate design”, a design method based on the local climate
○ Bring cool breeze at the optimal time by utilizing IoT technology
With Misawa Homes Research Institute, Inc., a think tank of Misawa Homes Group (Head office: Suginami-ku, Tokyo / President Katsuyuki Chihara), Takasho Digitec Co., Ltd. (Head office: Kainan, Wakayama / President Ryosuke Furusawa), which develops outdoor lighting business, environmental exterior item “Drip louver ” developed by Misawa Homes in 2017, jointly developed a system that automatically operates in conjunction with weather information, it will be released nationwide (excluding Okinawa) from October.
The drip louver is an environmental exterior item that creates a high sprinkling effect in the surrounding area by utilizing the evaporative cooling effect by slowly dripping water from above on a 1.8m high aluminum louver.
The wind that passes through the louver panels that are wet with water brings the coolness of nature, and the way the water drips from the top one after another creates a visual coolness.
In addition, since it is made of aluminum, it is durable and easy to maintain, and can be expected to be effective as a blindfold.
In addition to a hole design that maximizes the cooling effect of dripping water, a simple structure with excellent design, and the fact that a cooling device that does not use electricity can be expected to be effective in countermeasures against global warming. It has also won the Good Design Award 2017.
Until now, drip louvers sprayed water at the time set in advance by the timer, by utilizing the “GEMS® ” system that automatically controls various exterior items such as lighting and network cameras, developed by Takasho Digitec in 2017,
Taking into account the temperature, humidity and wind speed, it is possible to sprinkle water at the optimal timing when a certain level of cooling effect can be expected.
This is based on the know-how of the design method “microclimate design” based on regional climate that Misawa Homes Research Institute has been working on for many years, estimation based on meteorological data over the past five years has confirmed that water consumption can be reduced by about 75% by adding humidity and wind speed, compared to watering only based on temperature.
It can also be applied to already installed drip louvers using existing external outlets.
In the future, HEMS, which controls indoor home appliances and household equipment, and GEMS, which automatically controls outdoor exterior items and transforms the garden into IoT, will work together to provide a service that can provide a rich life that integrates indoors and outdoors.
The two companies will continue to make use of the latest IoT technology to create a richer living environment that is friendly to the global environment and residents.

With GEMS®, IoT can be achieved in the garden by adding functions such as setting the lighting of outdoor lights with a smartphone, watching the garden with a network camera, etc. in addition to watering control of the drip louver.
